    Inspire and encourage active meaningful participation, collaboration, and quality task completion. You will learn student-centered activities that motivate your students. Gather a wide variety of fresh resources, observe best-practice strategies and collect standards/CCSS-aligned lessons that meet your needs, any core area, K-12. The what, why and how of student-centered learning, collaboration and 21st Century skills provide multiple opportunities to investigate, assess, evaluate and plan student-centered, student-directed and student-produced units of study. You will create a distinctive toolkit loaded with 30+ useful, self-selected ideas and exit with a developed practical project or unit of study. An emphasis is placed on the integration of literacy and technology across the curriculum. This online course aligns with CCSS, CCR, & NSBTS.

Our class shares the step by step process of a successful campaign. You will learn how to support a candidate or issue. You will also create fun and engaging lesson plans that focus on running campaigns. Most importantly, class emphasizes developing citizenship in your 6th through 12th grade students.   • EDU 932 - Kahoot! in the Classroom

    Credits: 3
    Create a fun filled way to teach your K-12th grade students. This class uncovers uses of the popular Kahoot! platform. Kahoot! is a free game-based learning platform for teachers. The course will directly impact your performance in the classroom and beyond. More importantly, students will learn how to engage a classroom in a variety of ways. Thought provoking supplemental readings, high-quality online resources and student-centered lessons make this an ideal class for both classroom teachers and administrators. You will create Kahoot! accounts, develop professional learning networks, create feedback loops, create review materials, and icebreakers. All five of the National Teachers Standards are covered in this class.


  
  • EDU 933 - Biblical Worldview Integration

    Credits: 3
    Why are so many students graduating from Christian schools, then abandoning their beliefs after the first or second year of college? If Christian schools are incorporating biblical integration into their classes, why are students still falling away? As Christian teachers, we need to provide opportunities for our students to examine their own thinking to determine if their beliefs are in line with Biblical truth and reality. Biblical Worldview Integration is not attaching a Bible verse to every lesson; rather, it is learning to see all of creation and all knowledge under the Lordship of Jesus Christ. This course will introduce effective strategies to help your students develop habits of thinking that are based on the truth and grounded in God's Word.
    This course counts toward both ACSI's Christian Philosophy of Education (CPoE) requirement and educational studies hours for renewal of ACSI certification.

  • LIT 905 - Folktales from Around the World

    Credits: 3
    Experience an introduction to folk literature from many cultures. The provided texts include activities which establish context, introduce vocabulary, stimulate and assess comprehension and invite application to everyday life and experience. You will be reading folktales and learn how to design several grade-level appropriate lessons. These folktales will enrich the teaching of reading and storytelling.
  
  • LIT 906 - British Novels

    Credits: 3
    British literature, classics from the 19th and 20th century will be the focus of this course. In this course you will have the opportunity to read and research two novels selected from a list of classics and will be encouraged to prepare to teach one of these novels. While the course may be most appropriate for secondary teachers, those who teach other levels may also enjoy the satisfaction that comes from reading great literature.

  • LIT 907 - Short Stories From Around the World

    Credits: 3
    Experience reading outstanding short stories from multiple cultures, including Europe, South America, and Africa. When one reads international authors, one is caught first by the universality of life. Their concerns and experiences and dilemmas are not that different from those of readers and writiers everywhere. In this course, you will be guided as you build a new appreciation for literature outside America, recognition of the wealth of cultural and social diversity, a fresh awareness of the short story form and its potential and confidence in teaching the short story as a literary form.

    Children naturally love poetry. This course is designed to help teachers gain confidence in teaching poetry- both reading and writing. It will introduce rationale, techniques and strategies for sharing poems with children. Teachers will discover the potential of poetry to enrich their classrooms plus practical ideas to inspire and encourage children to enjoy reading and writing poetry themselves. As children mature, so does the potential for poetry. It may enrich their lies with its vivd imagery and sound experience. It may complement their learning in almost every subject area.
  
  • LIT 909 - Fantasy Literature

    Fantasy literature has many unique uses for the classroom. Many teachers would like to capitalize on natural fascination young readers have with fantasy literature. This course will introduce you to techniques and strategies for teaching fantasy lit in the classroom. Readings and activities will help deal with unique challenges that come with reading outside the 'realistic boundaries.' Fantasy literature also encourages creativity of expression, including presentation through visual and performing arts.

  • LIT 911 - Hispanic Folktales

    Credits: 3
    There is no richer, more enjoyable, or convenient vehicle than folktales from which students are able to learn about another culture. Folktales are a 'fingerprint of history' revealing setting, customs, flavor of locality, origins or tradition, and history. They can demonstrate attitudes, priorities, and moral outlook and at the same time, maintain a student's interest. Their appeal lies in the various levels of interpretation and appreciation. Their contribution to multi-cultural understanding, in today's world, is most important and this class is also adaptable to the foreign language classroom. Students will read a brief text, define motifs, identify cultural aspects, compare and contrast and list commonalities. Students are asked to identify specific state or district standards and explain how the lessons are aligned with the standards.     Learn about the folktale genre, how to select appropriate, high-quality tales, how to incorporate them into the classroom and how to make the reading of these tales stimulating and relevant to students' lives. This course introduces teachers to the intriguing world of African folktales. Share the excitement as you read this collection of fascinating inherited wisdom.     Looking for a new approach to classic literature? Teaching Shakespeare offers you an opportunity to explore a variety of new, innovative teaching strategies for approaching Shakespeare in the classroom. This online, standards-based course includes special attention to Shakespearean vocabulary, comprehension and fluency, as well as current resources for teaching Shakespeare.
