  • TEC 957 - All Things Google

    Credits: 3
    All Things Google will introduce educators to several free Google Tools, such as the Chrome Browser, Google Classroom, Google Drive, Google Sites, Blogger, YouTube, Google MyMaps, and many more. Emphasis will be placed on how these tools can impact classroom practice. This course is designed for the instructor who wants to utilize free, powerful, collaborative tools with their colleagues, students, and community. Utilizing various websites (mostly from Google), participants will learn how these Google Tools work, and how they can use them in their educational role. There is something here for Elementary, Middle School, High School teachers, or Administrators. The power of some of the Tools will be mostly apparent directly with students, while others will be more apparent behind the scenes.


  
  • TEC 958 - Photoshop for Teachers

    Credits: 3
    Photoshop, the world-standard for digital image editing, is the quintessential tool for designing and manipulating images. A must-know for teachers of photography, multimedia, journalism, yearbook and art, Photoshop pushes the boundaries of digital image editing like never before! The richly illustrated course textbook is accompanied by video tutorials to walk the visual learner through hands-on exercises designed to provide mastery of the tools and core concepts of image manipulation only Photoshop can provide. It is not necessary to own a copy of Photoshop as demonstration versions (CS3 and CS6) are included on the course DVD. Working knowledge of the computer and its OS is assumed.     Credits: 3
    Do you want to change the way your work gets done? Do you want to enhance all your lessons with collaborative learning? Now, you and your students can use the free web-based collaborative productivity tools provided by Google, making it possible to have access to your documents around the world, on or offline. Google Drive, formally known as Google Docs, will do that and more. The tools include Document for word processing, Spreadsheet including charts and graphs, Presentation for multimedia authoring, and Form for doing online surveys. Through this hands-on project based course, teachers will be challenged to rethink their workflow and the way students interact on projects. This course is applicable to all grade levels.

    This hands-on course is designed for educators who already know how to navigate the Internet and now want to put this knowledge to some practical use. This course is perfect for teachers who want to search the Internet to enhance their classroom lessons and units.
  
  • TEC 961 - Computer Projects for the Classroom

    Credits: 3
    Utilize personal productivity software to develop classroom projects, which will give you strategies for improving your students' academic achievement and your own teacher effectiveness. This course is designed to assist you in crossing the digital divide by ensuring that each of your students are technologically literate and to encourage the effective integration of technology to establish successful instructional methods. Create your own projects as well as some from the course textbook, reflecting on each lesson. These lessons can be developed for any curricular area using computers and/or Internet technology, which also meet subject matter standards and framework requirements to help improve student academic achievement. Research articles are available to show how technology supports student achievement.

  • TEC 962 - Google Earth and Maps in the Classroom

    Credits: 3
    Learn to incorporate Google Maps and Google Earth into creative, standards-based lessons, and personalize the features that have direct application to your classroom. This course provides participants the ability to explore the planet from a desktop using Google Maps and Google Earth. From a ground-level look outside their front door in their own neighborhood, to a view of the continent from space, Google Maps and Earth will help teachers take their classroom students to places beyond imagination! Students can use these tools to visually explore history and news, and to learn map-reading skills. They can follow the paths of the great explorers or take a journey through a favorite book with literature trips. Teachers will also be able to expand students' information literacy skills by modeling how to navigate maps electronically as well as embed maps into documents and websites. Each project is directly tied to specific ISTE National Educational Technology Standards and the CCSS. The course is applicable for all grade levels. NOTE: Students are required to purchase the course textbook separately.
  
  • TEC 963 - Digital Storytelling: Photo Story 3

    Credits: 3
    Using a project-based approach for this online course, students will develop a slide show or movie that can be created using popular programs including Movie Maker, iMovie, PowerPoint and Photo Story 3. Each project is directly tied to specific ISTE National Educational Technology Standards and the CCSS. This course focuses on the power of storytelling, a method of communicating going back to ancient civilizations, using digital tools. The course addresses the ELA standards for speaking and writing as well as the content being covered. The participant will develop meaningful lessons centered on their student's needs that also meet subject matter standards and framework requirements. This course is applicable to all grade levels.
  
  • TEC 964 - iPads in the Classroom

    Credits: 3
    The iPad has proven its tremendous potential to revolutionize the way students learn and teachers teach. This versatile learning and teaching tool can become a textbook, calculator, drawing pad, interactive map or speaking dictionary, all with an intuitive swipe of a finger. The iPad is a perfect way to integrate technology into the classroom and into the hands of students. A program, developed by the instructor, simulates an iPad on a PC or MAC (software included with the course materials on CD-ROM) so owning an iPad is not necessary to complete the course. Scores of apps (from the tens of thousands available) for all grade levels and most subjects are demonstrated on the simulator. All assignments may be completed without classroom participation.   • TEC 965 - Teaching With Moodle

    Credits: 3
    This course provides educators with the skills and knowledge they will need to be an effective online instructor in order to meet the needs of 21st century students. Using Moodle, course participants will become part of a community of learners as they build a solid foundation for their own online course. Experiences from both a student and instructor perspective will introduce course participants to the features of Moodle that supports a specific philosophy of learning called ?social constructionist pedagogy?, where knowledge is gained in a social setting facilitated by collaboration. Students will refine their own course objectives guided by the revised Blooms Taxonomy for 21st Century Learners, and using a systematic approach along with sound instructional design principles begin the process of planning and designing an online course in Moodle. They will learn how to ensure that their learning outcomes are met through pedagogically sound activities that are measured through technology based assessments while providing opportunities for active learning. While gaining the technical skills necessary to build an online learning environment, students will explore what current research says about the state of online learning in the United States, investigate existing online courses and identify components of a quality online course. This will allow course participants to gain an awareness of online activities and assessments appropriate for diverse learning styles. While this course will be using Moodle, the instructional strategies, design principles and pedagogy can be transferred to other course management systems.
  
  • TEC 966 - Project - Based Learning Using Technology

    Do you want your students to be the problem solvers of the future? Project-Based Learning using Information Technology is the answer. This course gives you the skills and techniques to become an expert at teaching your students to become the thinkers of the future. You will learn how to use research, multimedia development, and presentation skills within a Project-Based Learning unit to lead your students to use higher order thinking skills to construct and convey their own concepts. Project-Based Learning turns lessons into motivating activities, providing your students the experiences they need to work collaboratively on projects that challenge them to use higher order thinking skills. This course teaches you how to create, implement and assess exciting multi-discipline units of instruction. It is a great course for teaching language arts skills, particularly for English learners.
  
  • TEC 967 - Facebook in the Classroom

    3 Units
    Welcome to Facebook. Teachers connecting with students and parents. The instructional focus is on the teacher who wants to become a confident user of Facebook to enhance communication with parents and in some cases, students. By the conclusion, participants will have created a personal profile as well as a classroom group page that may be used instantly in the classroom.

  • TEC 968 - Youtube: Expanding the Classroom

    Credits: 3
    This course is for any teacher who desires a way to help, as well as communicate, with students, their parents, and other teachers after school hours. It would also be very useful for those teachers who want to Flip their Classroom. The participant will be given the guidance and opportunity to develop helpful or instructional videos that anyone can access online. They will unveil the power that YouTube, other free video hosting sites, and screen recorder programs like Jing have to offer. Even though YouTube is blocked by most schools, be aware that it is only the means for students to access the videos outside of school. Any video a participant finds on YouTube can be downloaded so it can then be shown in class, if so desired.   • TEC 973 - Data - Driven Decision Making for Teachers

    Credits: 3
    This online course, Data-Driven Decision-Making for Teachers, can help you use different data analysis strategies, evaluate state and local benchmarks, develop action plans and communicate information about a student's progress with parents. Using the technology of today's student data programs, teachers have access to a wealth of information. Effective data-driven decision making is a must in today's standards-based curriculum because teachers need to focus on the curriculum areas where their students are struggling. This course will show you how to find both the weaknesses and the strengths of your students and explore the concepts behind the use of data to develop instructional strategies and move towards taking a leadership role on your campus. This course is recommended for all teachers that teach in grades K-12 and want to improve instruction in their classroom. Course resources include sample exam reports. Although helpful, having your own report generating tool is not a requirement.
  
  • TEC 977 - Cloud Computing for Educators

    Credits: 3
    Never buy another piece of software again! Students will learn how to create word processing, presentation, spreadsheet, portfolio, image, video, and web documents with free tools that are available online and stored in the 'cloud' where they can be accessed from any internet device. Emphasis will be placed on projects that would be typical class assignments for their grade-level students as well as projects to aid in the organization and processing of their daily duties as teachers and administrators. The purpose of this class is to provide educators with many tools to make their life as a classroom instructor easier and more organized with a side benefit of helping them make their lesson plans more fun and technologically-oriented for their students.
  
  • TEC 978 - Twitter for Educators

    Credits: 3
    Learn how Twitter can be the best professional development tool you have ever used! Create a Professional Learning Network (PLN) with other educators and experts to learn from and share ideas, activities, lesson plans, teaching strategies, the use of technologies, and classroom pedagogical reasoning. Students that take this course are absolutely amazed to learn what Twitter can do for them as an educator. This course will directly hit on the majority of the NETS and NBPTS Standards with an emphasis on: Connecting With Other Professionals; Connecting to Content, Expertise, and Activities Through Online Communities.
  
  • TEC 982 - The Flipped Classroom

    Credits: 3
    This online course will research the pros and cons of Flipping the Classroom which, at its most basic definition, means that students watch a video of the day's lesson while at home and work on problem sets, projects, and discussions during class time. In other words, traditional homework would be done during the school day where the student has access to the teacher's expertise and interaction with their peers while the lecture (lesson) would be watched at home. Course covers all the mechanics of making your videos, creating an online presence for your class, and the pedagogy behind the flipped classroom.

  • TEC 985 - Document Cameras: Enhanced Lessons

    Credits: 2
    Learn how to integrate a document camera seamlessly into your classroom, engaging and motivating your students as they interact with authentic content. This course will provide dynamic ways to present lessons for the classroom whether you are a teacher, principal, curriculum specialist, or librarian. Working at your own pace, online lessons and Internet resources will help you apply new knowledge and skills to instructional practice. Teachers develop lessons that incorporate the creative use of visual media that support both local learning goals and the Common Core Student Standards.
  
  • TEC 987 - Create Digital Books with iBooks Author

    Credits: 3
    Digital textbooks are fast becoming a major teaching and learning medium. Apple's free (Mac only) program, iBooks Author, makes creating electronic books fun and rewarding. Select a template then use simple 'drag and drop' controls to lay out pages, import text, embed media, and create interactive elements; the process is easy and straightforward with iBooks Author. A course on such an innovative program deserves an innovative teaching approach; in lieu of a textbook, the course is presented in iBook format, downloaded from the instructor's website. Supplementary materials are downloaded to a Mac, and instruction takes place using your iPad and Mac simultaneously. Utilizing the rich multimedia capabilities of an iBook along with the intuitive touch interface of an iPad, the course becomes an immersive learning experience. A portfolio is assembled throughout the course, culminating in a self-created iBook, submitted via Dropbox for evaluation and feedback. MINIMUM requirements: Macintosh running 10.7, iPad 2, Internet connection, iTunes account. Access to students is not required to complete the course. Welcome to Pinterest for Teachers, a course that is designed to give you the freedom to search for exactly what you want to learn. Connect with others who teach the same grades or subjects and curate at a pace that fits your individualized needs. Pinterest for Teachers thoughtfully introduces Pinterest as an effective technology tool that enhances student learning. This course will apply the National Educational Technology Standards (NETS), the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS), and the Common Core State Standards within the individual lesson plans and projects assigned for course completion. NOTE: Required materials must be purchased separately. After completing this course, you will possess a refined set of tools, including your self-created Pinterest graphic to post, selected information from Dr. Betty Garner's research, and Pinterest applications for your lesson plans that can help struggling students.   • TEC 990 - Icloud: Pages, Numbers, and Keynote

    Credits: 3
    Learn how to create, update, share and collaborate on documents with Apple's productivity suite - Pages (word processing), Numbers (spreadsheets), and Keynote (presentations). Using a Mac or Windows computer, iOS device, or Chromebook, documents are stored on the free iCloud service (which includes free web-based versions of Pages, Numbers and Keynote), keeping documents available and current, regardless of the device used to create, acces and edit them. Start a document at home on a PC and finish it at school on an iPad, simply and seamlessly. If you have experience with MS Office, you have used similar programs before; in fact, Pages, Numbers and Keynote can import and export Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint files. The course covers the mechanics of using the iCloud suite, the iCloud environment and the creation of useful and meaningful teaching materials.     Credits: 3
    Create a web page with four free online tools, then choose your favorite to use in creating the classroom web site. The pedagogy and rationale for having a classroom web site are covered along with many other resources that may be included on your class web site. If your school requires use of a specific site, this course will teach you how to incorporate that site as well. This course will directly address the majority of the NETS and NBPTS Standards.

    A Chromebook is a laptop computer that utilizes web-based apps and cloud storage. Affordable yet powerful, a Chromebook offers students and teachers access to a wide range of productivity and curricular applications. This course will cover the nuts-and-bolts of the Chromebook as well as the use of productivity apps, online surveys, and learning groups. Hands-on assignments promote a practical, broad understanding of this new teaching and learning tool. The course can be taken using a Chromebook, Windows, or Macintosh computer; it is not necessary to have access to a Chromebook to complete the course. All assignments may be completed without classroom participation. Full materials include a printed copy of the course workbook delivered via US Priority Mail. The supplemental text: Michael Miller's My Google Chromebook (3rd Ed.) ISBN-10: 0789755343 is recommended to achieve maximum benefit from the course, but is not required.   • TEC 996 - Google Drive Expanded

    Credits: 3
    Google Drive Expanded is an online course designed for you, the educator, to learn to use powerful online productivity tools and apply them to standards-based instruction. In this class students will learn to expand their audiences and be more productive using translation tools, voice typing, and interactive newsletters. Students will learn how to "flip" their classroom using Google Forms to create multimedia quizzes for their students to access outside of class time and automatically grade and send out the results using Flubaroo. This class also features the use of add-ons for Google Documents that easily generates footnotes and bibliographies to create graduate level research papers. The activities go well beyond just learning skills and focus on applying these skills for educational purposes. Google Drive Expanded is applicable to educators at all grade levels.
  
  • TEC 997 - Digital Imaging: Open Source

    Credits: 3
    Learn to create and improve digital images with free powerful software that will operate on the hardware available for teachers and students, both at school and at home. Working with instructor-created video tutorials, students will be guided on the best techniques for common image-editing tasks utilizing open-source programs like GIMP, Pixlr and Kitra that operate on any computer, including Chromebooks and tablets. Opportunities will be available for students to create materials for their classroom. No prerequisite knowledge with digital images is required.   The software is free and the video tutorials and files are included in the class fee.


  
  • TEC 998 - Digital Photography: Open Source

    Credits: 3
    Most modern cameras offer a wide range of settings, yet users tap into only 5% of what is available.  This class will explore the other 95% and also cover post-processing images using the application, LightZone. Opportunities will be available for students to create materials and explore uses in their classroom. No prerequisite knowledge with digital photography is required.  Students will need a computer (Windows, Mac or Linux) and access to a digital camera. Students will need access to a digital camera.  LightZone is free, open-source software and will run on most computers.


  
  • TEC 999 - Google Certified Educator Level 1

    Credits: 2 - 3
    Google Certified Educator Level 1 (GCEL1) is for those who WANT to become Google Certified Educator Level 1 certified or who currently ARE Google Certified Educator Level 1 certified and would like to obtain graduate credit. The organization, Google for Education, created the certification program and in their words, 'is for educators who have learned the fundamentals of using Google tools in the classroom.' To be certified requires completing an online tutorial and passing an exam. Two units may be obtained for this process. To obtain the third unit, participants will prepare projects that support the practical use of the applications for educational purposes. This course supports national, state, and local standards and does not require a classroom of students. To obtain more information about becoming a Google Certified Educator Level 1, go to the Google for Education Training Center. This course may be taken for 2 or 3 units.
  
  • TECH 900 - All Things Video: Open Source

    Credits: 3
    All Things Video: Open Source will teach editing and the creation of video content that you can incorporate into your instruction. You will quickly discover how easy it is to record and edit video content that is engaging and exciting, whether included in tutorials, presentations or lesson enhancements.
    Our main workhorse will be DaVinci Resolve, a full-featured, professional grade video editor that offers great basics with plenty of room to grow! Being free/open-source, both you and your students will be able to use it at both school and home!
    All of the lessons are self-paced and include a wide assortment of instructor-created video tutorials to help assist learners of any experience level find success in creating videos that can be uses in the classroom the very next day.
