EDUC 901 - Building a College - Going Culture

Credits: 3
This eye-opening, research-based course, utilizing standards from the American School Counselor Association, will explore college access and equity issues, along with the role of K-12 educators in promoting a college-going culture. Once the undisputed leader in college-going, the United States has now fallen behind several other nations in the percentage of young people who are enrolling in and completing higher education. Despite the American ideal of equal opportunity, access to college varies greatly depending on one's socio-economic background, ethnicity, and gender. The course will provide educators with insights and practical, proven strategies that can help motivate students and their families to prepare for, enroll in, and succeed in college. This course includes assignments requiring Internet access.
