Surprise and excite students as they discover mathematics come from real human beings like themselves. Learn how to take the fear and apprehension out of mathematics. The stories behind mathematical discoveries are fascinating but rarely told. When students learn how persons like themselves have discovered and shaped mathematics, their interest and motivation grows. This course examines the lives and work of great mathematicians who lived before 1700. It is designed to help teachers of grades 3-12 show the human dimension of mathematics.
