SPEC 606 - Medical Implications

An advanced study of professional, legal, ethical and historical practices, along with current issues and trends related to providing meaningful learning opportunities for teaching special populations, including students with physical/orthopedic disabilities other health-impairments, low incidence disabilities and multiple disabilities. Includes discussion and analysis of laws, procedural safeguards and regulations pertaining to the eligibility determination and education of exceptional individuals from birth through 22 years of age. Provides an overview of the educational, psychological and behavioral characteristics and needs of exceptional learners and their families, as well as best practices in implementing culturally, linguistically and developmentally appropriate interventions for teaching special populations in inclusive educational settings.
