THEO 754 - Reformed Theology I

Credits 3
We begin with a global overview of the historical and theological importance of the Reformed tradition, then give close attention to the life and theological enterprise of John Calvin, the fountainhead of Reformed Theology. By a careful reading of portions of Calvin's Institutes, we will experience his faith and life worldview, comparing and contrasting it with Lutheran and Anabaptist reformers who were at various times Calvin's allies or opponents. We will investigate how the 17th century Puritans reshaped Calvin's thought for their own context, and contrast their confessions with those of the 16th century. The course concludes with opportunity to make a personal response to key themes of the Reformed Tradition.
