THEO 755 - Reformed Theology II

Credits 2
This course begins with Jonathan Edwards, America's greatest theologian and the giant of 18th century Reformed theology. Born in 1703 (the same year as John Wesley), we still feel Edwards' influence today, especially through the revivals that shaped American evangelicalism. We encounter the same basic doctrines reviewed in course I, this time through the eyes and varied concerns of 19th and 20th century Reformed theologians, with special attention to the immense contribution of Karl Barth. Relevance of a Reformed "way of faith and life" for such pressing 21st century issues as the relationship of church and state, role of women, and liberation theology will be highlighted. The course again ends with opportunity for students to personally respond to how the Reformed Tradition will shape their own "way of faith and life".
