HIST 425 - Twentieth Century America4 A study of the emergence, development and nature of American industrial and urban society. Particular attention is given to the political and economic systems, the various social movements that have on occasion challenged them, the creation of a welfare state and the development of an expansionist foreign policy. A counter theme of resistance to the modernizing impulse is explored as well. Prerequisites: HIST 150
