Healthcare Administration: Informatics and Technology Emphasis B.A.

Overview

The Bachelor of Arts in Healthcare Administration with an emphasis in Healthcare Informatics and Technology is designed to provide expansive knowledge and a practical guide to skills in cyber security and privacy, data collection and analysis, emergency management, and epidemiology and population health within the field of healthcare. Classes such as Healthcare Law, Regulations and Ethics, Healthcare Information Technology, Population Health and Cultural Intelligence, and Quality Management provide the foundation for advanced classes in healthcare informatics and technology. The key to this 18-mo program is a consistent focus on participation, application of theories and concepts, and performance. With our bachelor's degree emphasis in Healthcare Informatics and Technology, graduates will complete four courses designed specifically for healthcare staff at all levels, including information technology and facility managers who want to gain knowledge in data analysis of metrics epidemiology and population health. Students will have an opportunity for paid 60-hour internships in local health care organizations and at completion of the program, obtain a certificate of completion as part of this emphasis, preparing them for career growth and development. Threaded throughout the major is an emphasis on the importance of metrics and analysis, as well as population health and how they are reported to state and federal entities. The major is designed to provide a solid background for graduates to use in seeking responsible employment or promotion within the healthcare industry.

Admissions Requirements

Application form and fee for the overall program, not unique or specific to any emphasis

  • A minimum 2.4 GPA, below 2.4 can submit a petition
  • Two years' postsecondary work experience
    • Need a minimum of 6 transferable units, below 6 units can submit a petition
    • Note: need 60 units before starting the major

Program Student Learning Outcomes

Healthcare Administration Content Knowledge: the student demonstrates mastery of foundational knowledge in general management, organization development, human resource management, financial management, the law, regulations and ethics in healthcare, quality management, leadership, conflict resolution, cultural intelligence, and strategic management.

  1.  Leadership Skills – articulate healthcare systems' leadership skills and apply them in a clinical setting
  2.  Professional Values – describe health care related professional values and demonstrate their application in a clinical setting  
  3. Literacy Skill – apply information literacy skills to critically analyze and investigate contemporary health care issues, including their legal and ethical implications.
  4. Cultural Diversity – explain effective practices related to cultural diversity in health care settings
  5. Oral and Written Communication – demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills for health care settings
  6. Research Project – develop and articulate an effective research project related to a contemporary issue in health care delivery.

Program Length:

Eighteen-month cohort program, plus an additional four 3-unit classes for the emphasis in Healthcare Informatics and Technology.

Credit-Bearing Hours

Students must earn a C- or higher to receive credit for their healthcare administration program courses. Exceptions: Students may receive credit for BIB-314 and BIB-446, as well as any other general education or elective course, with a D -.
