Overview
Fresno Pacific University's minor in Mathematics provides for a common foundation of single-variable Calculus paired with flexibility in upper division coursework. Students with primary interests in computer sciences, physical sciences, life sciences, business, or social sciences may select mathematics coursework to complement their major and career goals or bolster their preparation for graduate studies. Students with plans to complete teacher credentialing in another area may select coursework to progress towards satisfying a supplementary teaching authorization in Mathematics.
Program Student Learning Outcomes
- Communicate mathematical results and arguments clearly, both orally and in writing.
- Develop critical thinking skills and apply mathematical reasoning to apply theorems, solve problems, form conjectures, prove or disprove statements and evaluate and interpret results.
- Distinguish between and understand computational/methodological skills and use them appropriately and effectively.
- Use problem-solving skills and develop strategies necessary to solve real world problems mathematically, including mathematical modeling and the use of appropriate technological tools.
- Understand the central role of mathematics in the sciences and recognize the relationship between mathematics and creation.
