Mathematics Education Minor

Overview

For those interested in teaching mathematics in addition to their primary content area, the Mathematics Education minor may be used to prepare to apply for the California Teacher Credentialing supplemental authorization in mathematics. When attached to a single-subject or multi-subject CTC credential, a supplemental authorization allows the credentialed teacher to instruct introductory coursework in the area, such as middle-school level content.

Required Courses (20-22 units)

Select courses to satisfy topical breadth and 6 or more units at the 300 level or higher

Introductory Mathematics

Select one or more of the following:

MATH 120 - Principles of Mathematics Credits 4
MATH 140 - Pre-Calculus Credits 4

Calculus

Select one or more of the following:

MATH 210 - Calculus I Credits 4
MATH 220 - Calculus II Credits 4
MATH 230 - Calculus III Credits 4

Number Systems

MATH 340 - Number Theory and Applications Credits 3

Geometry

MATH 320 - Principles of Geometry Credits 3

Probability and Statistics

Select one or more of the following:

MATH 205 - Introductory Statistics Credits 3 and
MATH 206L - Introductory Statistics Lab Credits 1
PSY 300 - Statistics Credits 4 or
CRIM 422 - Statistics for Sociology and Criminology Credits 3
