HIST 130 - Medieval and Early Modern CivilizationsCredits 4 Recommended prior coursework: HIST-120. A study of major Western and non-Western civilizations from A.D. 500-1650. Included is the emergence of Islam; the development of civilizations in Africa, the Americas and Asia; and Europe during the Middle Ages, Renaissance, Reformation and Age of Exploration. Attention is given to the central place of the Renaissance and Reformation in the emergence of the modern world; the rise and spread of Islam; the important role of religion in early modern civilizations; the continued development of social, economic and political structures; the geography of the early modern world; and the ideas whose effects continue to influence politics, science, religion, culture and the arts of the present day.
