PPC 738 - Mental Health Counseling

This course provides candidates with opportunities to model and demonstrate essential counseling skills, techniques, and strategies in individual counseling. This includes the ability to counsel and address mental health needs of students during times of need, crisis, stress, trauma, changes. This course will also address initial assessment of students' mental health, crisis interventions, crisis response plans, threat assessments, responsive services, trauma informed practices, and the referral process to community agencies. This course will conclude with the understanding of the role a school counselor plays in a school crisis/post crisis plan.
