ECON 101H - Principles of MicroeconomicsCredits 3 Recommended prior coursework: MATH-140. An introduction to microeconomics. Topics generally include supply, demand and equilibrium; opportunity cost and scarcity; consumer theory; costs and profit maximization by firms; competition; effects of government policies such as price ceilings, price floors and taxes; and the way various markets operate, such as markets for labor, consumer products and loanable funds. Emphasis on the quantitative models of problem-solving skills. Students are required to identify an economic issue to explore as their research topic and present their findings and possible policy changes to resolve the issues to an evaluation committee. May not be audited.
