Program Director: Darren Duerksen, Ph.D.

Overview

The ability to work with people from various cultural and religious backgrounds is a crucial asset in our increasingly diverse world. A minor in Religious Studies equips students with skills to analyze religious traditions, their social contexts, and various approaches to religion so that they can understand and effectively engage with people in the workplace and beyond.

Program Student Learning Outcomes

  1. Religious Literacy: Demonstrate an understanding of diverse religions and their sacred texts, doctrines, art, ritual practices, social structure, and ethical codes/teachings.
  2. Social Context: Analyze how religions interact with, shape, and are shaped by the cultural, social, and political context to which they belong.
  3. Theoretical Analysis: Analyze and assess select disciplinary theories and concepts (i.e. anthropology, art, music, philosophy, psychology, religious studies, sociology) important to the academic study of religion.
  4. Interfaith Perspectives: Identify ways in which Christian and other religious communities and scholars understand and engage each other.
